YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE BACK TO INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES IN THE GTA Call for Board of Directors5/25/2023 The Aboriginal Legal Services (“ALS”) Board of Directors is a group of dedicated volunteers supporting the mission and goals of ALS: to strengthen the capacity of the Indigenous community and its citizens to deal with justice issues and provide Indigenous-controlled and culturally based justice alternatives. ALS was established on February 21, 1990, and is one of the leading charities supporting Indigenous people and communities. ALS is a national leader in Indigenous justice and advocacy, and has over 70 employees 13 offices, and serves over 2,500 clients annually. The Board is responsible for setting out the path of ALS and ensuring its continued journey. The Board of Directors is engaged meaningfully in all aspects of running a not-for-profit, including reviewing and approving financial statements, setting policy paths, and carrying out fundraising initiatives. The Board also participates in strategic planning for the organization and oversees senior personnel management to further the organization’s goals and capacity. Board Members are routinely expected to participate in Board Committees in areas where their skills best match, such as fundraising, finance, external relations, policy, or governance. Applications are now open to stand as a candidate for election to the ALS Board of Directors.
