On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Chantell Barker to the position of Executive Director of Aboriginal Legal Services, beginning February 6th, 2023. Chantell is Cree and comes from the Sapotawayak Cree Nation. Chantell’s spirit name is Geetchi Nodin Ikwe (Strong Wind Woman) and she is from the Deer Clan.
“I am excited and honoured to work with Aboriginal Legal Services as the Executive Director. I look forward to collaborating with the team and the Board as a team to provide culturally appropriate services that focus on healing and helping our clients reach their full potential.” said, Chantell Barker.
The Board is excited to work with Chantell as our new Executive Director and confident that ALS will be well-positioned under her guidance to thrive in the years to come. We feel very lucky to have found her and look forward to the organization’s evolution with her at the helm.
Aboriginal Legal Services (formerly Aboriginal Legal Services of Toronto) was established on February 21, 1990. ALS was formed following a need for a legal related program for Aboriginal people living in the Greater Toronto Area.
