Aboriginal Legal Services represented the family of Moses Beaver in a month-long inquest held in Thunder Bay which concluded on May 12, 2023. Moses was a member of Nibinamik First Nation in Northern Ontario. He was a much-loved father to four sons and a well-respected artist and teacher of many traditional skills. ALS Senior Staff Lawyers Caitlyn Kasper and Emily Hill represented the family at the inquest which looked into the circumstances of his death at the Thunder Bay Jail in February 2017.  The jury made 63 recommendations, many of them aimed at ensuring access to equitable mental health services in remote First Nation communities and improving health care in the Thunder Bay jail.
